Welcome to Wrestlingworth Infant & Dunton Junior C of E Schools Federation

From the smallest seeds grow the biggest trees

OUR CHRISTIAN VISION

“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed. A man plants the seed in his field.  That seed is the smallest of all seeds. But when it grows, it is one of the largest garden plants. It becomes a tree, big enough for the wild birds to come and make nests in its branches.”

Matthew 13:31-32, International Children’s Bible

We believe each child is like a mustard seed, growing and thriving in our Church school family.

All children are nurtured here and flourish through our teaching and care.  We empower children to seek out the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life; children are inspired to be the best that they can be. Everyone is valued and able to grow in the love of God.

Whoever you are, you are welcome here.

Welcome!

Wrestlingworth Infant and Dunton Junior C of E Schools Federation is a place where children can grow, learn, and feel at home. Our schools focus on building a sense of community, encouraging a love for learning, and supporting each child in their journey.

We provide a safe, welcoming environment where Christian values are important, and there are plenty of opportunities for learning and fun. Teachers and staff work closely with our families, our Churches and the local community so that our children are nurtured to reach their full potential.

Whether you are a parent, carer, child, or visitor, we warmly invite you to explore our website and discover the unique opportunities and experiences that make our two small village schools a special place to learn and grow.

Our Value this month is Peace

Welcome from our Executive Headteacher

It gives me great pleasure to write to you as the Executive Headteacher of Wrestlingworth Infant and Dunton Junior Schools.

Both of our wonderful schools are ‘Good’ schools and all our children are flourishing as individuals and academics.

Previous to my headship here, I have been a Headteacher at Ashton St. Peter’s CoE Primary School for the past 6 years and continue in this role alongside Wrestlingworth and Dunton. I was a teacher for eleven years. In my previous most recent teaching post, I was the Assistant Headteacher and had been a member of the Senior Leadership Team for 5 years, at Aston St. Mary’s CoE Primary School. I was proud to be part of a team that turned this school from a ‘Good’ School to an ’Outstanding’ School and consistently achieved outstanding results in the top 10% of schools in Hertfordshire. Prior to working at Aston St. Mary’s, I worked at Wilshere-Dacre Junior School in Hitchin and was fortunate enough to work with a variety of Headteachers and an Executive Headteacher in this school. I have taught in some capacity across all year groups and have a good understanding of the transitions through the school ages.

I would like to thank parents and staff for supporting us on this journey and period of change so far and am excited for the future of our village schools.

I am always happy to hear your thoughts and ideas and I look forward to working in close partnership with you.

Kind Regards,

David Bower – Executive Headteacher

Welcome from our Head of Schools

It’s my privilege to serve as Head of Schools within Wrestlingworth and Dunton C of E Schools Federation. My connection to the schools began in childhood, as I was once a pupil at Dunton myself, and my mum shared her passion for music with generations of children working in the school as a dedicated music teacher. These early experiences instilled in me a love for our schools and a lasting connection to our community.

My professional school journey began with Scope, where I worked with children with profound and multiple learning difficulties. From there, I transitioned into mainstream teaching as well as taking the role of SENDCO for over 20 years. Before joining Wrestlingworth Lower School as a Teaching Deputy and SENDCO in 2019, I enjoyed working as Head of Education in a residential school for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties.

The past two years (almost!) as Head of Schools across our Federation have been an exciting time of change and transition, including the move to our new Infant and Junior Schools. It is now possible to see our children continue their educational journey into upper Key Stage 2, growing in confidence, curiosity, and capability.

Our Federation is rooted in our Christian vision, and we strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment where every child feels valued and inspired. We offer a rich, creative curriculum and prioritise a nurturing environment, ensuring that all our children thrive academically, socially, and spiritually.

Beyond my role in the schools, I serve as the Church Warden at St Mary Magdalene Church. When I’m not at our schools, I love spending time with my family and friends and my beautiful little dog, Darcey who brings me new joy every day.

I warmly invite you to explore our website to learn more about our schools, and I look forward to welcoming you in person to experience the special community we are so proud of.

Kind Regards,

Maria Poultney – Head of Schools
