Governing Body and Committee Members

The Role of the Governing Body

The Governing Body meets at least twice a term to receive a report from the Headteacher and to discuss matters relating to staffing, finance, buildings, the school’s policies.  The role of the school governor is demanding but very rewarding and is a good way to give back to your local community. School governing bodies are responsible for working with the school to ensure that it delivers a good quality education. Together with the Headteacher, who is responsible for day-to-day management, they set the school’s aims and policies.

Our Governors have five main roles:

To provide strategic direction for the schools by:-

  • Working in partnership with the Headteacher, staff and parents to identify priorities for the development of the school.
  • Taking ownership of subjects by liaising with staff and participating in staff meetings. This ensures a broad and balanced curriculum for all.

To act as a critical friend to the Headteacher by:-

  • Interrogating the data provided and rigorously challenging the actions she has taken in response e.g. attainment and closing the gap.
  • Working closely with the School Improvement Partner to identify the needs of the school and Headteacher.

To ensure accountability by:-

  • Monitoring staff performance.
  • Reviewing financial returns and requiring best value for money.

To actively participate in sustaining and developing the schools’ communities by:-

  • Working in partnership with the Church.
  • Developing close working relationships with staff.
  • Attending school events.

To promote the distinctiveness and Christian character of the schools by:-

  • Dedicating each Governing Body meeting at the start with a prayer.
  • Ensuring Foundation Governors act as a link between Church and schools.
  • Supporting the spiritual and ethical values of the schools.
