Reading Café

Reading Cafés at Wrestlingworth Infant and Dunton Junior

At Wrestlingworth and Dunton, we are proud to host our Reading Cafés every half term – a warm and welcoming event designed to bring families together and celebrate the joy of reading.

What is a Reading Café?
Our Reading Cafés are relaxed, informal gatherings held in school, where parents, carers, and children can enjoy a small breakfast snack, a cup of tea or coffee, and – most importantly – quality time reading together. It’s a wonderful opportunity to share stories, explore books and enjoy a love of reading in a calm, friendly atmosphere.

Why Reading Together Matters
Reading with your child is one of the most valuable things you can do to support their learning. It helps to:

  • Develop language and vocabulary skills

When children read or are read to, they are exposed to new words, phrases, and ways of expressing ideas. This helps them to expand their vocabulary and improve their speaking and writing skills.

  • Build concentration and imagination

Listening to stories and following a narrative helps children develop attention skills and the ability to concentrate for longer periods.

  • Strengthen parent-child bonds

Reading together offers special one-on-one time. It helps children feel secure, valued, and supported, which boosts their overall development.

  • Foster a lifelong love of reading

Even just a few minutes a day can make a huge difference to your child’s development and confidence as a reader.

At this age, every story, every page, and every shared moment matters – helping your child grow into a confident, curious, and capable reader.

Supporting Our Library
All Reading Cafés are free to attend, but we kindly welcome donations. Every penny raised goes directly towards purchasing new and exciting books for our school library, helping us to keep our collection fresh and inspiring for all our children.

We look forward to seeing you at our next Reading Café – it’s the perfect way to start the day with a story!
