Intent
At Wrestlingworth and Dunton Federation, we aim to ensure that all pupils:
As a Federation we have chosen the Purple Mash Computing Scheme of Work from Reception to Year Six to ensure continuity and progression of skills across year groups.
Computing as a stand-alone subject has a number of key components, each of which we aim to teach and fully instil the value of amongst our pupils. These are:
Our Computing curriculum across the Wrestlingworth and Dunton Federation will enable children to not only use technology but to understand it and create with it. We understand the importance of integrating online safety into our curriculum so that it is covered frequently and in depth across all year groups; teaching children the importance of using technology safely and appropriately. We aim to prepare our children for the evolving digital world that we now live in. We want children to become digitally literate by the time they reach the end of Year Six.
Implementation
Our computing curriculum is designed to provide a balanced coverage of computer science, digital literacy, and information technology. It encompasses a wide range of skills and knowledge, enabling pupils to become confident users of digital technology and creators of digital content.
We understand the importance of making computing engaging and relevant to our pupils. Our lessons incorporate real-life contexts, making connections between computing and other subject areas. We make use of a variety of digital tools and resources to bring learning to life. Pupils are encouraged to explore, experiment, and problem-solve through hands-on activities, collaborative projects, and creative tasks.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage children are exposed to a range of devices and remote controlled toys and resources so that they can explore simple technologies independently and use them in their learning and play. This helps to support and develop their knowledge and understanding of technology.
In Key Stage One children explore: online safety, questioning, how to create pictures, presenting ideas, technology outside school, effective searching and coding.
In Key Stage Two children explore: online safety, spreadsheets, branching databases, coding, touch typing, emails, logos and animation.
Impact
We want our pupils at the Wrestlingworth and Dunton Federation to become autonomous, independent users of various computing technologies, gaining confidence and enjoyment from their activities. This can be found in the evidence of progression and achievement will be seen in examples of pupils’ work saved and stored on the Purple Mash website.
Children are highly motivated to continue their learning as many enjoy logging on to Purple Mash at home to further their skills and understanding.
