Science

Intent

The intent of our Science curriculum here at Wrestlingworth and Dunton Federation, is to inspire curiosity, promote scientific thinking, and develop a deep understanding of the natural world. Our aim is to equip our pupils with the scientific knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to be successful learners and active citizens in a rapidly changing world. Through engaging and relevant learning experiences, we aim to foster a lifelong love for scientific enquiry and an appreciation of the impact of science on individuals and society.

Implementation

Our passionate teachers deliver engaging and inclusive science lessons using the Cornerstones curriculum that are aligned with the National Curriculum. They provide clear learning objectives, allowing pupils to understand the purpose and expectations of their learning. Teachers use a variety of pedagogical approaches, including practical experiments, investigations, discussions, and technology-enhanced learning, to cater to diverse learning styles and abilities within the mixed-age group. They encourage pupil collaboration, critical thinking, and the application of scientific knowledge to real-life contexts.

To ensure a broad and balanced science curriculum, we cover a range of scientific disciplines, including biology, chemistry, and physics. We carefully sequence the curriculum to ensure continuity and progression of knowledge and skills. Pupils explore topics that are relevant to their lives and promote a deep understanding of scientific concepts. Our curriculum includes opportunities for pupils to develop their scientific inquiry skills through hands-on practical activities, research projects, and problem-solving tasks.
