24/03/25 – Easter Bake Off

Today, our children participated in a wonderfully competitive Easter Bake Off – a fantastic tradition Wrestlingworth proudly hosts each year and a new tradition Dunton has adopted.

The brief was to bake 6 cupcakes with an Easter theme at home. With this in mind, the event showcased an impressive variety of cakes, including flavours such as carrot, lemon, plain, chocolate and cherry, to name just a few. The decorations were truly creative, with both edible and non-edible touches, beautifully piped icing, and colourful sprinkles.

After the judge’s decisions were made, the children all got to eat a selection of the cakes!

Thank you to all who took part, and to our parents for your support.

It was a joy to see so much enthusiasm and creativity from the children, making this event one to remember!

13/03/2025 – Bug Hotels!

This morning, our Year 5 children had an incredible adventure at the brand-new Oak Grove development in our village!

The day kicked off with a cosy welcome in the show home, where the children eagerly unwrapped exciting goody bags from Lagan Homes. Next, they were introduced to the fascinating world of bug hotels and learned how to create their very own. With enthusiasm, they headed out into the show home garden and split into three teams to build their bug hotels, working together and getting creative.

The fun didn’t stop there – the children were thrilled to take a turn sitting inside a forklift! To wrap up the day, they were each presented with a special certificate to celebrate their participation and achievement.

It was a morning full of learning, teamwork, and memorable moments!

10/03/2025 – Science Day

Today was our Science Day which forms part of British Science Week this week. The theme this year is ‘Change and Adapt’ which sparked lots of creative experiments for the children to take part in.

To start our day at Wrestlingworth, we thought about what a scientist is. We looked at photos of lots of different people and tried to identify which might be the scientists. We were surprised to find out that actually all of them were!

Children then moved between the activities and experiments throughout the day:
1. We learned about about how flight and aeroplanes have changed over time. We then made our own planes and tried to adapt features such as wing shape to make them to fly further.
2. We found out about how animals have evolved to better hide from predators using camouflage. We tested this out by hiding and finding different coloured wool worms.
3. We learned about how sports and games can be adapted so people with disabilities can enjoy them too. We used blindfolds to simulate visual impairments and had to use our sense of hearing to identify where a hoop was to throw our beanbag into.

We also joined in on the Science Farm Live video and saw all the ways that animals and crops are adapted to their habitats here in Britain and how farmers  are adapting their practice to fight against climate change.

At Dunton the children explored the fascinating world of Science through hands-on experiments and teamwork. To begin the day, the children discovered lots of new information in a whole school lesson which focussed on many different types of Scientists: Volcanologists, Palaeontologists, Ornithologists, Botanists, Neurologists and even Seismologists!

Children then moved between the activities and experiments throughout the day. They learned how light and shadows interact by using dinosaur figures and torches, observing how shapes and angles change as light moves. Children faced a challenge to create safety for fragile eggs, encouraging creative thinking and problem-solving skills. Another activity involved children working in pairs to complete an obstacle course while blindfolded, relying on clear communication to guide their partner safely through the course – they were encouraged to think about how life changes when you are visually impaired and how adaptations can be made.

The day was filled with discovery, teamwork and fun, showcasing how Science helps us understand and adapt to the world around us!

06/03/2025 – World Book Day

This year, we celebrated World Book Day with a fantastic range of activities that sparked creativity, imagination, and a love for reading! Our students had a blast participating in a Where’s Wally? hunt, putting their detective skills to the test as they searched for Wally hidden around the school. They also got to unleash their artistic talents by designing their own unique book covers and crafting personalised bookmarks.

Our whole school drama activities brought classic stories to life, with students acting out scenes from Jack and the Beanstalk and Goldilocks and the Three Bears, making for some unforgettable performances.

It was a day filled with fun, creativity and a shared love of literature that we hope will inspire a lifelong passion for reading in our children.

The costumes and cosy pyjamas looked great today! We had such a range of costumes today: Mr Twit, a mermaid, Prince Charming, some footballers, a butterfly, a bad tempered ladybird, a dinosaur, funny bones and the Queen of Hearts to name just a few costumes.

Thank you to all the staff and children who made World Book Day such a memorable occasion!

25/02/25 – We have new school signage!

This week we have had new school signs installed at both schools which reflect our new Infant and Junior names and our new logo! We are very pleased with how smart they are looking, and it’s another step towards our future as an Infant and Junior school. Have you spotted them?
